The Securities and Exchange Commission proposes requiring operating companies and mutual funds to submit financial statement and risk/return summary data in Inline XBRL format. This change aims to improve data quality and reduce preparation costs by embedding machine-readable tags directly into human-readable HTML documents. The proposal also eliminates the current requirement for filers to post Interactive Data Files on their websites and terminates the voluntary XBRL program for investment companies.
