The Securities and Exchange Commission adopted final rules to modernize the national market system for the collection, consolidation, and dissemination of NMS stock information. The rule establishes a decentralized consolidation model requiring competing consolidators to register and disseminate consolidated market data, thereby fostering competition. It also expands the definition of core data to include additional information types and amends related regulations to support this new infrastructure.
