SEC Staff Accounting Bulletin: SAB 109

Staff Accounting Bulletin 109 supersedes SAB 105 and requires registrants to include expected net future cash flows related to loan servicing in the fair value measurement of all written loan commitments accounted for at fair value through earnings. The bulletin prohibits the inclusion of internally-developed intangible assets, such as customer relationships, in the fair value of these commitments, retaining the prior view that such assets are only recognized in third-party transactions. Registrants must apply these views prospectively to derivative loan commitments issued or modified in fiscal quarters beginning after December 15, 2007.
