Custody of Investment Company Assets Outside the United States

The Securities and Exchange Commission extends the compliance date for certain 1997 amendments to rule 17f-5 governing the custody of investment company assets outside the United States. The compliance date for these amendments, excluding the amended definition of an eligible foreign custodian, is extended from February 1, 1999, to May 1, 1999. Registered management investment companies may continue to operate foreign custody arrangements under either the 1997 Amendments or the rule as it existed prior to those amendments, subject to the amended definition of eligible foreign custodian.
