Mutual Fund Redemption Fees

The Securities and Exchange Commission adopts amendments to rule 22c-2 under the Investment Company Act of 1940 to reduce compliance costs for open-end investment companies. The amendments narrow the definition of 'financial intermediary' by excluding entities that funds treat as individual investors for frequent trading policies, thereby limiting the number of intermediaries with which funds must negotiate shareholder information agreements. Additionally, the rule clarifies obligations regarding chains of intermediaries and permits a fund's transfer agent to enter into these agreements on the fund's behalf. These changes are effective December 4, 2006.
