Annual Adjustment of Civil Monetary Penalties To Reflect Inflation-2024

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission amends its regulations to adjust the maximum civil monetary penalties under the Commodity Exchange Act for inflation. This final rule implements the Federal Civil Penalties Inflation Adjustment Act by applying a cost-of-living multiplier to penalty amounts, resulting in increased maximums for violations occurring on or after November 2, 2015. The adjusted penalties are effective January 24, 2024, and apply to all penalties assessed after January 15, 2024.
